Speaking: January 27th Atlanta SmugMug

Speaking: January 27th Atlanta SmugMug

January 10, 2011  |  Speaking

Update: The Atlanta SmugMug Meeting has been moved to the 27th at PPR. We’ll see you there!

Hi Everyone!!

Rupa with the Atlanta SmugMug will be making the official announcement soon. However, we wanted to go ahead and share it here. We’ll be speaking & leading a hands-on shooting workshop on lighting. This will actually be a two-part series. The first part being this month and the second part, next month.

This upcoming meeting we’ll be covering on-camera advanced lighting techniques. Basically, we’ll cover everything that is possible using on-camera flash. We’ll be covering not only the when & why, but also the how. And then, after a short(ish) presentation – we’ll move on to a hands-on workshop! Now, we only will have about two hours to work with – but, well, we can get a good bit accomplished in those hours.

So, come and enjoy the evening with us! Perhaps learn a technique or two – or even get to share your knowledge with others! Keep an eye out at the meetup group for the announcement. It will be at PPR Atlanta on the 27th and (most likely) at 7pm. (Note: The date & time, while unlikely, could change – just a quick fyi)

The official writeup:

Atlanta SmugMug Lighting Workshop – Part 1 - On-Camera Lighting: The When, Why, and How: This session is all about on-camera lighting. We’ll be starting with the basics and quickly going to the most advanced topics with on-camera lighting. We’ll talk about the different techniques, why & when you would use them, as well as how to best use each technique in real-life situations. These techniques can apply to taking portraits, event photography, & wedding photography (and maybe even a few other types as well – anywhere on-camera lighting can be used). After this introduction to on-camera lighting, we’ll have time for a hands-on workshop for the rest of the meeting. There will be different setups with experts (Anna and Spencer) leading each setup giving you hands-on time with shooting & the time to ask questions. So, be sure to bring your camera & flashes! Also, if you already have a firm understanding of this concept – no problem! We’d love to get your feedback, and you could even share your knowledge with others at the meeting. Everyone will walk out with a firm grasp of the lighting concepts & techniques presented.

This is part one of a two-part seminar & workshop. We strongly suggest coming to the first and second as February’s will build on January’s topic. In February, we’ll dive into off-camera lighting techniques as well as lens selection for your shoot.

P.S. At the next meeting, we’ll be covering advanced off-camera lighting along with a hands-on workshop. We strongly advise anyone that wants to come to attempt attending both as the second topic(s) will build off of the first topic(s). Also, both will end up being a blast & educational for all.
